You've just brought home one of the best espresso machines for home use, and it's sitting on your counter, ready to transform your coffee routine. The Meraki all-in-one espresso machine with grinder eliminates the guesswork with smart features like high-definition touchscreen, CoffeeSense™ Technology, and dual precision scales. Whether you're a complete beginner or upgrading from a basic setup, this guide walks you through everything: unboxing, pulling your first shot, dialing in parameters, and keeping your machine in top shape. In just several minutes from beans to cup, you'll be brewing café-quality espresso without leaving home.

Unboxing and Setup

Unboxing your Meraki from box to the first power-up. You can brew right away with the Meraki as supplied, but proper placement and initial setup will allow everything to run more smoothly.

What's Inside the Box

Open the box to find your complete starter kit:

The Meraki machine itself includes the built-in grinder, so you have everything needed to start brewing immediately.

First Power-On

Fill the 2000ml water tank to the max line with filtered water. Slide the tank into the rear compartment until it clicks. Plug in the power cord, then the machine auto-powers on and displays a warming animation. Heat-up takes 3-4 minutes. The PID temperature control system brings both boilers to operating temperature simultaneously.

Pulling Your First Shot

In your first experience with espresso, you will use grind, dose, and extract. This will be managed for you in the Meraki’s Auto feature.

Grinding and Dosing

Lift the lid of the 400ml bean hopper and pour in fresh coffee beans.

Tap the Grind icon on the touchscreen. The default shows 18g, the standard dose for a double shot. Tap the weight value to adjust if needed, then press the Grind button. The co-engineered grinder (designed with Timemore) spins to life, and grounds fall into the magnetic dosing cup below. The grind scale (accurate to ±0.2g) auto-stops at your target weight. This takes about 8-10 seconds.

Portafilter Prep

Remove the dosing cup from its magnetic mount. Pour the grounds into the 58mm portafilter basket. Distribute evenly by tapping the sides, then use the included tamper to compress the coffee. Apply firm, even pressure until the grounds form a flat, level puck. Uneven tamping creates channels where water flows too quickly, resulting in sour, weak espresso.

Insert the portafilter into the group head and rotate counterclockwise until snug. The portafilter's marking may not perfectly align with the group head's logo, since this is normal and doesn't affect performance. Don't force it. With regular use, the gasket softens and locking becomes easier.

Running the Extraction

Tap the Brew icon. The screen shows your target liquid weight. Press the Play button for Auto mode. Water flows through the coffee, and the extraction scale below measures output weight in real-time.

Watch the espresso stream from the portafilter spouts. It should start dark and syrupy, gradually lightening to a honey color. The extraction scale measures output weight in real-time as you approach your certain target. If you prefer manual control, pull the extract lever fully to the right instead of using the Play button.

Dialing In Temperature and Grind

Dialing in means adjusting variables to achieve balanced flavor. Even with CoffeeSense™ shortcuts, knowing these controls improves your coffee.

Adjusting Grind Size

If your first shot tasted off, grind size is the first fix. Position the grind adjustment lever on the left side of the machine. Turn it while the touchscreen shows grind size numbers in real-time.

When extracting to your target liquid weight (e.g., 36g), adjust grind size based on how far your extraction time falls from the ideal 25-35 second range:

Shot more than 15 seconds off target (25-35s)? Decrease grind size by 5-10 settings if too fast, or increase by 5-10 settings if too slow.

Shot within 10 seconds of target (25-35s)? Decrease grind size by 1-2 settings if too fast, or increase by 1-2 settings if too slow.

Fine-tune your tamping pressure as well: firmer pressure slows extraction, lighter pressure speeds it up. Smaller particles create more resistance; larger particles allow faster flow.

Setting Brew Temperature

Tap the temperature icon at the top of the Brew screen. The PID system offers 85-96°C range in 1-degree increments.

  • Light roasts: 93-96°C to extract fruity, floral notes
  • Medium roasts: 90-93°C for balanced sweetness
  • Dark roasts: 88-91°C to avoid bitterness

Using CoffeeSense™ Recipes

If you purchase Meraki-branded coffee bags, they include an NFC chip. Place the bag on the circular sensor to load recipes tailored to your coffee.

Swipe up to load recommended settings: grind size, dose weight, and brew temperature calibrated by professional roasters. These recipes minimize waste during your learning curve, especially helpful for expensive single-origin beans. The settings remain active until you swipe down and tap Reset to return to manual control.

Daily and Weekly Cleaning

Regular cleaning extends your machine's lifespan and preserves coffee flavor. The Meraki manual provides specific maintenance schedules based on usage frequency.

After Each Use

Wipe the steam wand immediately after steaming milk. Milk proteins stick to the wand tip and burn onto the surface if left. Dampen a cloth and wipe from base to tip, then pull the steam lever for a brief purge to clear internal milk residue.

Weekly Grinder Maintenance

Clean the grinder every 1-3 weeks after approximately 500-1500g of beans. Dark roasts require more frequent cleaning due to higher oil content.

Remove the bean hopper by lifting straight up. Store remaining beans in an airtight container. Rotate the burr chamber counterclockwise to detach. Use the included brush to sweep grounds from burr gaps and the underside. Never use water or damp cloths, as moisture causes rust and clumping.

A blower tool clears the internal grind chute more effectively than brushing. Keep it dry to prevent moisture entering the motor. Reassemble, add beans, and grind to purge any trapped stale grounds. Discard this first grind.

Monthly Deep Cleaning

Once a month, perform a backflush to deep-clean the group head:

  • Replace the regular filter basket with the blind basket (a solid disc with no holes)
  • Lock the portafilter into the group head
  • Access Quick Menu (swipe down) and tap Cleaning Mode
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the backflushing process
  • Remove portafilter and scrub the shower screen with the cleaning brush

Steam wand deep clean (every 3-5 days for frequent use): Fill the milk pitcher with 300ml cold water. Submerge the steam wand and lay the pitcher flat in the drip tray. Activate steam for 10 seconds, wait 5 seconds, repeat 5-6 times. This dissolves internal milk buildup. Remove the pitcher, wipe the wand, and steam empty for 10 seconds to expel remaining water.

3 FAQs about the Meraki Espresso Machine

Q1. Can I Make Drinks Other Than Espresso With an All-In-One Espresso Machine With Grinder?

Yes. The hot water function in Quick Menu lets you make Americanos, brew tea, or preheat cups. With the steam wand that includes intensity levels of 4 different strengths, different types of milk foam are produced for preparations such as latte, cappuccino, and flat white. There is a sensor that tracks temperature changes.

Q2. Is the 58MM Portafilter Compatible With Aftermarket Baskets?

Yes, the Meraki uses standard 58mm commercial-size baskets. The machine includes an 18g portafilter basket for double shots and a blind basket for backflush cleaning. The dual precision scales (grind scale and extraction scale) measure with ±0.2g accuracy regardless of basket configuration.

Q3: What Makes the Grinder in This Best At-Home Espresso Machine With Grinder Different?

The Meraki features an isolated grinder design developed with Timemore. The ion beam design at the dosing outlet provides low retention and mess-free grinding. The machine uses a rotary pump rather than a vibratory pump, contributing to quieter overall operation. The grinder includes a precision scale that auto-stops at your target dose weight.
